Purpose of the Role

To assist Lead Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate lessons and activities that provide a foundation for spiritual, social, emotional, and academically successful students. To practice respectful care that will meet the basic needs of each child at Adventure Station or STEAM Academy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Honor God with your conduct, conversation, and appearance.

  • Understand and implement Adventure Station and STEAM Academy’s core values.

  • Be here, Be on time, Be respectful to others, and Be enthusiastic.

  • Attend monthly staff meetings, Christmas Program, Easter Program, Professional Development Day, and Meet the Teacher Night.

  • Assist Lead Teacher in maintaining a safe, healthy, and clean learning environment.

  • Assist Lead Teacher in implementing the learning experiences for children.

  • Supervise children during work, play, and rest periods.

  • Assist Lead Teacher in communication with parents about their children through e-mails, daily sheets, and verbal communications.

  • Assist Lead Teacher with input concerning children’s progress by documenting learning experiences and collecting portfolio entries.

  • Answer parent’s/family’s questions concerning classroom purpose, curriculum themes, age-appropriate developmental milestones, and classroom schedules.

  • Assist Lead Teacher in gathering supplies and materials.

  • Assist children with basic diapering and restroom needs.

  • Be able to substitute for the Lead Teacher in case of their absence.

Requirements

  • Attend a minimum of 20 training hours yearly.  *Staff meetings will be included in the totals.  

  • Seek a degree, certificate, or higher education in Early Childhood Education. 

  • Ensure your assistant teachers have acquired the necessary skills to be promoted. 

  • Ensure your assistant teachers and part-time assistants are developing skills and learning from their experience. 

  • Support an increase in enrollment at Adventure Station/STEAM Academy because of the level of excellence you adhere to and the culture of Christ-centered practice you maintain.

STEAM Academy is an Indiana Paths to Quality Level 3 Registered Ministry childcare center with 4 locations in the Greater Lafayette area. We are looking for creative, flexible, and professional individuals to be a part of our team.
